That's the right decision in my opinion. Let Faux News and their ilk fill the room.

Proud to be a subscriber and proud that you are taking a stance about the abuse of this regime against media and the First Amendment. (Not that they care about the Constitution.)

Mike Hammer's avatar

A difficult choice no doubt but these are difficult times. Bravo for standing up for your ideals which we support and stand with.

Way to go MeidasTouch no one should be attending that garbage. This monster should not be celebrated nor his regime. For the traitors and the fake news who celebrate this piece of 💩 everyday and doesn’t think what this monster has done and still doing to America and Americans and countries around the world. They are sick and deranged like this pedophile pig. So thank you for all your hard work and dedication to all of us. We love you MeidasTouch 💯💪💯💪💙💙💙💙💙💙💯💯💪💪💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯

A boycott is definitely appropriate. But I’d also love to see a brave group of journalists attend, stand together as an alliance and condemn the trump regime for its attack on the 1st amendment rights of not only the media but American citizens in general.

I used to love watching the WHCD every year because the roasting was so DELICIOUS! And everyone was united in the fun.

Until… DJT was scorched by Barack Obama in 2011 as Trump FUMED and SEETHED! That was SO hysterical and perfect! And poor little diaper donny felt completely humiliated. I’m sure in that moment he made a vow to destroy Barack Obama, enemy #1!

I’ve watched that video a gazillion times! And I laugh out loud every time!

Barack, so cool, hip, perfect delivery, meticulously timing… birth video - the Lion King!!!!

I know no one is perfect but Obama was an amazing president. Suave and well spoken. Educated and compassionate. Characteristics sadly trump has never possessed.

Merry's avatar

Absolutely. OK, I confess. I LOVE BARACK OBAMA! Truly, madly, deeply.

And I had the great good fortune and pleasure of seeing him TWICE, when he was campaigning for his first term. In small venues, up close and personal. He is just a joy to behold. Remarkable man. What an articulate orator he is. Relaxed, engaged, funny. Extremely intelligent. Thoughtful. Dedicated. Young, vibrant, energetic.

(Full disclosure… he did disappointed me a couple of times, but overall? The best!)

He set the bar high. And we certainly need more of him. His entire family is a beacon of hope.

I sure wish he could run again.

Elly's avatar

Well if trump thinks he can run for a third term, so could Barack!

Robert Goldbach's avatar

Suppose that King Chaos would somehow get an amendment to the Constitution that allows three terms per president. Would Obama run again? That would sure scare the sh*t out of our current White House occupant. Diaper explosion!

Merry's avatar

Oh, that would be grand! Barack would run circles around donny, the dirty diaper dude! 😂

Robert Goldbach's avatar

I remember how well I slept during the Obama presidency. Never worried about what I was going to wake up to the next day.

Bella M's avatar

remember the good old days when people, more or less, didn't give much of a hang about what was going on in DC? We listened to State of the Union addresses without hate in our hearts and thought... "OK, that's that." We could listen to the news about the government without having our blood pressure and level of anxiety rise to the sky.

Merry's avatar

Agree. And then trump stepped in and destroyed all that. All because he couldn’t accept the notion that a smart, savvy, capable, well-educated, much admired and respected young man, who happened to be half black, could possibly be president of the United States.

Betsy Dee's avatar

Only "they" make that a sin. I'm right there with you.

Cat Lady USA's avatar

Obama still is the greatest president in a very long time!

ramonaj's avatar

I also used to love the WHCD. When we had a real free press. It is another form of protest for me. I won't pretend everything is normal. Not watching .

Merry's avatar

Me neither. I refuse to watch or boost their viewership.

Danita Hamilton's avatar

Well said exactly 💯

Susan Raquel's avatar

Thank you for posting this, I had not seen it before. Imagine, Obama had black hair back then. :-)

trump wanted to destroy Obama well before this. All the birther nonsense, emphasis on Barak's middle name, etc. trump was scared to death of Obama as well he should have been. Obama was all that trump could never be.

Merry's avatar

Yes, Trump is a racist bigot and he’s always hated Obama. And that WHCD roast exploded Trump’s tiny pea brain! He wants REVENGE!

Debby's avatar

Thank you for the walk down the memory lane of a sane President with a sense of humor

Merry's avatar

Obama is such a great orator. And that roasting was certainly one of Obama’s finest moments. His delivery and timing were “hall of fame” impeccable!

Steven Rosenzweig's avatar

Keep reporting, Ben. We are listening.

Mark Mazzie's avatar

My only hope is that someone has the guts to stand up and blast the orange menace. I'm not counting on it.

Kari Gunderson's avatar

I hope it's the women journalists that he openly insults.

Betsy Dee's avatar

Tell ya what, that "shut up piggy" shtick of his is gonna land him on his ass and crying like the big baby he is. Somebody's gonna take one for the team - hopefully sooner rather than later :)

Linda Harris's avatar

I have never understood in any of trump's slurs to the women in the media, why no man has stood up for them. They are proving to be a complete disgrace to the males of the species.

Susan's avatar

I whole heartedly agree. It boggles the mind that everyone just lets it happen.

Betsy Dee's avatar

Yeah, and there's *that* too. Used to be a gentleman would have shut him down.

Linda Harris's avatar

I figure common courtesy should have made them do something. I know this is probably old fashioned; but my mother and father would be disappointed in me if I did not stand up for someone in that situation. A quote from them would be "we taught you better" and they would be correct.

patricia montague's avatar

Tim Waltz of MN got it right … we are dealing with weirdos on the right anymore. Completely dysfunctional human beings. Wierdos.

Betsy Dee's avatar

Indeed. We were raised right ;) It ain't rocket science, either.

RobinW's avatar

I dont understand why the women he insults dont stand up step up for themselves & at least verbally let him have it! But its crickets as always.

Susan Raquel's avatar

I know that I would lose my job in a hot hurry if someone spoke to me like trump does to the reporters. I'm not sure that I could a good a job as Crockett did to MTG; but, I'd sure give it a try.

ramonaj's avatar

I can't not flip out. Just my nature to go off. That's why I am not to be trusted in place requiring decorum.

Robert Goldbach's avatar

I don't understand why ALL women who voted did not elevate Harris and pull the rug out from under King Chaos in '24. They should certainly be voting straight blue in '26.

Susan Raquel's avatar

Because many were Christian Nationalists and they are required to do as their husbands tell them.

ramonaj's avatar

Now I know I could never be one. That's not me.

Susan Raquel's avatar

I am thinking that if there is even a hint that women of the Christian cults might vote contrary to their husband's wishes they might be forbidden to vote. That might go in the favor of the Democrats.

Also, if trump gets his way many women, of any party may not be able to vote due to the name matches requirement.

Bert Dandy's avatar

Not likely if those we rely on to do the standing up, chicken out like this.

Jo-An B Evans's avatar

I fully support your position not to attend the Correspondents Dinner. It would be so unethical be there supporting what’s not “normal”.

James Wilson's avatar

Couldn’t say it better. It’s not normal times and we shouldn’t be celebrating anything. This isn’t like the Bush years where at least grownups were doing terrible things. They at least didn’t destroy our alliances completely. Even after Iraq.

The media needs to wake the hell up and speak truth to power.

Betsy Dee's avatar

Well said. I remember how I felt about Dubya - tRump has made him look like a sweet li'l puppy, hasn't he?

Maureen's avatar

It is morally and patriotically right to protest this sham event since Trump has trashed our country. Let the Kelly Conways, Karoline Leavitts, Marco Rubios, and Pete Hegseths kiss his ass. You are nothing like those people. Do not infect your Brand. The stench and stain will last forever!

BF's avatar

Meidas should host an event at some cool local venue and mock, mercilessly, Weijia Jiang for her toasting King Orange of Depends and the other media sycophants who'll be attending.

Hold your own 'red carpet' arrivals, etc.

Am sure many of your independent journalist colleagues would enjoy an opportunity to party!!

Linda (Evanston IL)'s avatar

It’s probably too late. It’s not like the Drain the Swamp event at the National Press Club the night of SOTU. Miles Taylor even had the Portland Frogs there. Will trump be able to stand up straight at the podium? Probably not. We hope he falls down. Maybe someone can wax the floors.

Susan Raquel's avatar

Might be fun if someone spread glue all over the floors. Rubio would surely lose his oversized shoes. trumps lifts on the bottom of his shoes would come off. lol

Gerry's avatar

Don Lemon would rock a red carpet!

Sue Testerman's avatar

Totally agree with you. Thanks for your hard work and commitment to the truth.

Milton Bond's avatar

Good there’s no reason to celebrate evil

Sandra's avatar

No one in the press should attend! It’s ridiculous on its face. Your stance does not surprise me one bit. Bravo.

Cathy Hallessey's avatar

I’d love to see an empty room at the event. Good for you!

Janel's avatar

That's a Great decision 👏🏾. We are not candy coating any of this bullshit these Magats have done to our government.

Wade Baynham's avatar

Good. Proud of everyone working with you, Ben!
