If I were talking to an open-minded person about it, I would compare it to the phenomenon of obsession with a singer or a group of musicians (although most of them have actual talent). Sometimes, fans can love the musician(s) but not really pay much attention to the words in all of their songs.
A lot of the MAGA people seem to me to be in that category, i.e. they love to HEAR their DJT's voice, but really haven't LISTENED to all the hateful and just dumb crap he has been spewing, unless of course, they are hate-filled themselves.
