Trump is the leader of the most powerful nation in the world and could use the carrot and stick approach to negotiate with nations. Primarily I think multilateral deals would be best, as a single deal is painstakingly hard to do. We are better off doing with multiple allies to strengthen our alliances.

And thank you Ben for covering everything that CBS ABC and NBC refuse to do. They cover this for a few minutes and not in depth at all. And they don’t show the bat shit crazy stuff Trump says, they water it down. The rest of the world is laughing at us for real now because of this idiot. Stay strong Meidas Mighty.

Rachel and Lawrence are great, as is The MeidasTouch. But I think it’s a bit of a stretch saying that corporate media isn’t covering the economy. I’ve been reading quite a bit about what’s happening with the trump economy in both the NYT and WSJ.

Last summer, when it truly mattered, you only found the most relevant facts about the economy systematically in... the op-ed section. In the meantime, the newsroom posted "objective" articles that prioritized POLLS ABOUT the economy instead of facts, and then wrote clickbait headlines about those polls, without mentioning that this was people's (false) PERCEPTION of the economy.

Only today are they finally waking up and writing about it a little more. Still, the NYT censors its journalists and pundits so much that Paul Krugman had to leave and start his own Substack...

The legacy media bears a huge part of the responsibility for the shit show we're now experiencing! They completely normalized dump and made probably the most successful POTUS in my rather long lifetime look like a dottering fool and do nothing. Exactly! And then there was the horrible AGEISM. The only thing that interested them was Biden's age, which they used to constantly suggest that he may have reduced cognitive abilities, whereas on the one hand, he had PHYSICAL disabilities (spinal arthritis and his speech impairment was back, in part), and on the other hand, his entire record proved that he was VERY capable of truly governing as an intelligent, hard-working president with a moral spine of steel.

And unfortunately, quite some progressives are now into ageism too... imagining that all the highly experienced, older Reps and Senators and leaders (whose experience we VITALLY need in times like these) would somehow be no longer needed, only because of their age...

Expand full comment
Johanna Smith's avatar

The ageism was even more ridiculous because dump is only 4 years younger and absolutely has and had mental decline. He was never able to speak or write a complete sentence even as a younger man. Friends who have gone to protests have reported the same. The thing is, our generation is on our way out. If younger folks don't wake up and give a damn, they won't have anything left. Honestly, that's on them. My daughter is not having children. I don't have to protect a legacy. I'll find ways to fight however I can. But younger folks will get what they deserve. And it looks like it will not be pretty

A.1. Sauce is a brand of brown sauce produced by Brand & co, a subsidiary of Premier Foods in the United Kingdom and in North America by Kraft Heinz. Sold from 1831 as a condiment for "fish, meat, fowl and game" dishes in the United Kingdom, the makers introduced the product to Canada, and later to the U.S. where it was later marketed as a steak sauce. Along comes a guy with a kindergarten understanding of global economics, puts a policy in place that decimates retirement accounts across the board, drives the value of the $ down, increases inflation and uncertainty for businesses big and small. This hurts all Americans not just retirees and yet our republican congress will not act to control this irresponsible maniac. I totally agree. And, it was recently reported that there is more "right wing" media than "truth/fact" media. Well, that is our challenge. It doesn't cost money to support other independent media, even if they ask. So, you can put your support around a variety of media to up the anti, to allow truth/facts to scream louder than lies and propaganda.

I do pay for Ground.news as it fact checks the sources so I can report on my own substack every day. I do pay for this substack as I support Meidas Touch. But everyone else and everything else I support I just subscribe to and get their basic stuff or their comments or their newsletters. It still shows the support. More and more people need to start up independent media to reach more and more people, even if we were all saying the same things, which we are not, support them anyway because audiences overlap, but do not all subscribe to the same media. To the present company infesting the WH, numbers mean everything!

Check out other Independent Media including Brian Tyler Cohen, Glenn Kirschner, Jim Acosta, Christopher Titus, Cliff Cash, Farron Cousins, Jimmy Kimmel, Heather Cox Richardson, Robert Reich, The Contrarian, Laurence O'Donnell, Jasmine Crockett, Pete Buttigieg and more. My personal faves on Meidas Touch also include Tennessee Brando, Adam Mockler, Frances Maxwell, and CoachD_Speaks, as well as Ben, Brett & Jordy. I also support Jon Stewarts Weekly podcast and some others as well as post my own substack of truth/facts!

I have been following your messages for a while, I have always enjoyed the info and insight. I want to compliment the hard work and great insights. The only comment I would add to the above is that Trump DID have a plan laid out for him: Project 2025. And it is being followed no matter how chaotically it’s being employed. He’s embellished it with his whimsy, hate and evil. This is the only reason I see for the R’s letting him proceed, giving him a pass on every hateful, ill-informed and swaggering BS he comes with. I envision the authors of that document biding their time waiting to get rid of him after he’s served their purposes. Even the SCOTUS has paved the way for him to continue when any other POTUS would have been in jail by now.

But, by my lights, he is getting so horrible, so carried away, that even some conservatives behind Project 2025 cannot abide him. Their “tool” is becoming a larger problem than the liberalism they despise.

Just a thought...

Just because we are under attack does not mean that we are under the attacker's rule. We are not. You said you resist all you can. Well under a dictatorship you would not be able to do that and you would be arrested if you did.

Hang on to the fact that we are still under a Democracy under attack because we can still fight today! We are still "FREE" today. We still have the Constitution on our side today, regardless of what the enemy is doing in their camp. Their camp may be out there for all to see, and their battle plan published on the Internet, but that is in our favor. We are still free today and today we can still fight back. That's not an option in a dictatorship.

I agree with your assessment above, BTW. Well-intentioned. A bit naive.

I don’t believe we are “already there” yet on the fascism, but dangerously close. As much as I detest the Conservative agenda, I don’t think they are ready for a full-on Fascism. I do think they are naive about their own goals and how perilous they are. Maybe I give them too much credit.

On my most optimistic days, I’m heartened by SCOTUS losing their infatuation with Trump (all but 2). I wait for a serious crackdown from them, hopefully soon. I do think the deporting of hostages may tip the scales when people realize that could be done to any of us, as well.
