The time is NOW. This was not on my retirement agenda. But that ‘resist’ voice in my head from the early 70’s has awoken. No kings…not then…not now….not ever.

It wasn’t on my agenda at 73 either. And I just had a knee replacement! But I’m strong enough to make a show of it on No Kings Day, so I will be there. I wish Gen Z had experienced real freedom and concern for one’s neighbors, but all they know is Dumpf! I can’t imagine what they are facing! ♥️💙🕊️

I just had knee surgery yesterday so I don’t think I can make it to a rally but I will put up a no kings sign.

Please everyone, these fake accounts pop up constantly. It's THE worst possible form of ad: annoy others as much as possible with spamming. So click on the three dots next to "Lisa Edited" and then click on "report".

I have reported them so many times. I just go in and block. I now have a problem reporting on my kindle...it freezes. But thanks for doing it.

The problem with blocking them is that others still see them, whereas when we report them, Substack destroys these fake accounts.

If I could have reported it I would have. See above. My Kindle freezes and doesn't let me submit it. I'm not on the substack app. They are on so many boards. As fast as you report they will be back so I have to block. Can't look at it.

“And don’t you know, we’re on the Eve of Destruction” Yes, protested in the 60’s and early 70’s and will be out there protesting this illegal government overthrow!

Yeah while it doesn't change the message of Barry McGuire's iconic song, keep in mind he became a fanatical right-wing Christian singer. (even if his goofy Xtian song "Cosmic Cowboy" is amusing fun)

That is sad…but the song should be re-written for the America we see being destroyed today.

Catherine Voight, it does not need to be rewritten. Eve is just as appropriate to the times as it was in the 60’s and 70’s.

I have to say, I met Barry McGuire in person in a small church in San Diego in the mid-70’s. He had just came out with his best and a double album. He gave a free concert to all 200 of us with the doors open to the outdoors. He gave a one-man concert with acoustic guitar and piano in a tee shirt and jeans. It was amazing! He played “Eve of Destruction”, but by then it had become even more meaningful to him as a prophetic song. I know of at least one man who was not a church goer who walked in the back door during the concert because he had heard Barry’s music. He looked like he had had a hard life in spite of being young. He stayed for the concert and came down front to talk with Barry at the end. I know for a fact that Barry prayed with him personally and he got saved. But the thing that impressed me the most was that Barry went out to his car and brought back another of his new album and told him that he wanted the man to have it for free. I have never seen any kind of famous singer of any kind do that before or since. He had a good heart and was not any kind of a weird fanatic. Just a good kind man who loved God and his fellow man.

Friend of mine in California was actually in a congregation with him, somewhere, years ago. Not a bad word about him. Let's be clear I never said McGuire was a "bad" person, he may or may not be, at this late stage, let's hope his faith is consistently practiced & not "directed" to conform to a narrow political focus, it's just not a safe assumption that his politics are accurately reflected in a song from over 50 years ago.

PUT THE GOP OUT OF OFFICE!

We need to urgently understand that the problem is not Trump, it's the NEOFASCIST GOP.

Once Trump is gone (impeached or other), the next neofascist is ready to take over, and with the next Republican, it will only be worse!

This wasn't on our retirement agenda either. At 77 and 80 years old, we never thought we would see such unintelligent voters. God help Democracy. 🇺🇸🗽🙏💙💙🌊

I am 79 and my Republican husband is 80.

He has NEVER voted for Trump, because he has the brains to know the difference between his Republican parents and the cowardly supposed Republicans we have today.

Me either. As a 73 yo woman I did my share of protesting in the 60s and 70s. Never did I expect to be back at it in my 70s. My husband and I will be out there on the 14th at our local protest. This has to end.

We boomers who protested in the 60's and 70's remember how to protest and we can lead the way for the younger people to follow us. Our example lights the way for them to know that we're fighting for their future and their children's future. It's no time to be complacent!

Same for me Eileen! One of the Felons golf courses is about a mile away from where I live. It’s really just a Country Club where cretins dine. I’d like to be on the edge off the grass outside the place and have a No Kings sign.

Problem being I’ll probably get arrested and next birthday I’ll be 70.

I should do it though but I’m frightened I might be on his property. I’m not walking onto the road just on the grass next to the road.

I have to parse this out. My daughter isn’t around and my other daughter is gone. So no I’d be out there alone.

It’s not like the 70’s Vietnam protests, it’s turn into violent hateful rhetoric with physical harm and guys with masks on their faces.

Yes the time is now, again. We’re right there with you at 76 & 70 years and we will do what we can. We joined INDIVISIBLES and you should too. They will keep you aware of what you can do in more than one way. If you’re too handicapped to march they can steer you to phone banks, postcards, simple donations etc. Power to the people. 👍🏼
