While Bezos can't be bothered with giving his $ to a good cause, his ex is doing a fantastic job at just that. Every time lil' Jeffy complains, she donates even more to nonprofits and worthwhile causes. Makes me smile every time I read about something she's done.

Stay safe Ben, you and your family.

Ben, first of all I’m glad you are safe. I think you live south of the fires. My family lives north and my bonus daughter’s house caught fire. She is safe. Prayers to all!!!

Secondly, I’m now boycotting Amazon. It’s a drug from which it’s hard to withdraw, but now it’s a patriotic duty.

That’s it. Wishing you, your brothers and the Mighty Meidas a peaceful and meaningful Wednesday.

I understand the emotional satisfaction of boycotting Amazon, but it will have no practical effect. Amazon is too big to fail, just like Chrysler and the big banks. If you can get what you want easily where you live, you're probably not hurting yourself. I live in a rural area and Amazon is the only way for me to get most products without spending an entire day looking for and retrieving them from stores 4+ hours away.

And please, no assigning "patriotic duty" to something so prosaic as purchasing every day stuff. If you want to go there, go after Biden for not doing his patriotic duty to step down in time for Dems to have had a real chance at winning the election.

Expand full comment
LincolnzGhost's avatar

Tell that to Sears, Montgomery Wards, JC Penny, Gimbel's, etc. Nobody is too big to fail. Too big to fail is code for bribing the right people for corporate bail outs and corporate welfare. If they are too big to fail they should be broken up.

I also live in a rural area and have limited stores close. What I propose those of us do is go to the actual company Amazon is getting these things from and order from them. Yes, I won’t get it in a couple of days and I may have to pay shipping but Amazon will not be profiting from me.

Expand full comment
Dik de Bruijn's avatar

So sorry you took it personally. No, of course you should not "all" be quiet, nor did I suggest that. My point was that it's not feasible for some of us to stop using Amazon. And Biden got named in this conversation because his ego was one of the reasons we're struck with Trumpty Dumpty. Biden's narcissism -- "Only I can defeat Trump" -- forced Dems into a hasty reactive rather than rational proactive campaign.

The people who believed that Trump collected billions from China for the tariffs he imposed on Chinese goods. Economists said that tariffs are paid by the receivers of the goods i.e. Target, Walmart etc. and the extra cost gets paid by their shoppers. Trump said he was right and the cult believed him. White women who voted for Trump are the ones I really, really, really, really, can't understand. The uninformed or lazy thinkers are to blame. Seriously? Egg prices? What a hoax that they bought into Trump's "old women who put an apple back in the refrigerator at the grocery store because of prices?" He thinks he made up the word "groceries." Shame on those who voted for him! We must stop blaming the democrats who cast their vote for his opposition.

The Dem leadership made a number of fatal mistakes, the first being not making sure Biden stepped down in time for there to be a real primary. The Dem leadership also does not appear to understand many of the Trump supporters. The Dem leaders seem to have thought that if they only showed how awful Trump is, he would lose. The Dems do not understand that for many of Trump's base, the cruelty and flouting reason IS the point. For others it's the economy, stupid, NOT a comparison between Harris and Trump. Starting in 2023 when Biden failed to announce he would not run again, I knew Dems would snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. That didn't take 50 years of Carville's experience, just a knowledge of human nature. FYI: I'm an independent leaning left and voted for Harris. Although I knew she would lose, to me that was the conscientious choice.

Expand full comment
Darlene R Waite's avatar

Come on....this must stop. This is NOT about Dems' mistakes. This is about people not doing their homework. Trump is not fit to be a leader of anything much less the US of America. Nor is JD Vance. This is about racism, sexism, and straight up ignorance. Jesus Christ could not have beaten Trump in this election because Trump would have found a way to make him look "little" and weak. Who in their right minds could vote for a man who calls people names (he's undignified...he's a criminal, a sexist, he can't form sentences, and he's a lying bigot). Need I say more? I am so tired of Democrats blaming Democrats for being civil. Biden has been the most successful leader of our times. He's done more for America than anyone in our life time. We need to stop blaming the person who does the right thing and does his job. We need to stop blaming people (voters) for not retaliating. We should NOT behave like the crazy MAGA bigots who act violently and are serious followers of the criminal. Place the blame where the blame lies....people who lack the morals to do the right thing. C'mon.

Expand full comment
Dik de Bruijn's avatar

You make a number of very good points. And while this IS about racism, sexism, and straight up ignorance, it's also about different cultural values. Those are generally not changed by people "doing their homework." Ex: while I believe abortion should be legal under almost all circumstances, doing "homework" -- whatever that means -- isn't going to change someone's cultural belief that the fetus is a fully formed human who has rights that supercede those of the mother.

Moreover, Biden did not do the right thing, which was to keep his word about being a "bridge" president. And I am placing the blame where the blame lies, which is a number of places, INCLUDING Biden whose ego and hubris -- if not his lack of morals -- led him to not do the right thing.

Expand full comment
Darlene R Waite's avatar

I disagree, and that is ok. When I say "do one's homework" I mean look at outcomes, track records, accomplishments, and comparing that to rhetoric. Yes, Biden did campaign on being a transitional president. I can also recognize that he was extremely successful in doing his job. He was WINNING on outcomes: infrastructure, G-7, G-20, Oil Production, Social Reform programs, Climate issues and he was able to do it with bi-partisan support. His economic performance in our country was the envy of the world. Yes, the price of eggs is high. There is inflationary pricing going on and there is corporate greed. It is proven that union job accessibility has improved and I could go on an on. On day 1, he proposed a immigration policy that drug on and on as well. The republican Speaker of the House killed the bi-partisan bill. I would venture to say that most "winning coaches/leaders" would have a hard time stepping back when they are at the top of their game...Biden was at the top of his game in performance and outcomes. It is so easy for us to condemn others from our arm-chair warrior position. In the end, just under 50% of America said they want a criminal, bigot, sexist, rambling, dysfunctional lying grifter to run the country....someone who sells golden sneakers, Trump bibles and flags, virtual playing cards....etc. He's a bully. End of story. My support will stay with the Democrats. Let's not fall to the queen bee syndrome of killing our own. Let's move forward.
