I skipped nothing. Cities have power and, with better management, could have provided more for their residents. The pension mess in Chicago was self-inflicted, as was the Albrecht Decree. The Skyway Toll and parking contracts are other examples. And the list goes on! One cannot blame all of Chicago's problems on outside influences.

I apologize for dismissing your comments, as they are indeed valid. I allowed myself to be over-focused on the fact that Cities have some responsibility for their current state. Cities are not evil swamps, but the homes of millions of good people trying to make a life for themselves and positively impact their communities. In these difficult times, we should be open to criticism, accept it, and improve ourselves when it is correct. Your constructive criticism is invaluable to me, and I sincerely appreciate it.

IтАЩve been myself exasperated why American Cities werenтАЩt in better shape, but having learned throughout my life, IтАЩve learned how the cities were crippled by the decades long repukkke malice in the two-party system of USA that depended on bipartisan cooperation. That doesnтАЩt mean that there havenтАЩt been the cases wherein certain city officials incl. but not limited to Democratic ones (an example, eric adams of NYC) have been corrupt too - but they have their names and have been prosecuted or will be/can be. Democratic Party of USA is the first one to prosecute its own corrupt members. Something unthinkable in the opposite side of the aisle.
I agree that there is a war against cities that goes back decades. Examples include roads to facilitate transportation through or around cities. Growing up in New York roads came at the expense of public transportation. Though NYC did hold onto the nickel fare too long. But the fact is public transportation was a distant second to highways. Highways are important and can compliment public transportation.
