Rep. Jim Himes on Trump’s National Security Dumpster Fire

Congressman Jim Himes joins me to expose just how reckless, self-obsessed, and dangerous the Trump regime has become — and what’s at stake if we don’t push back.

Hey everyone, it’s Ben Meiselas, and I just finished a sobering and honestly, infuriating conversation with Congressman Jim Himes, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee. Trump’s second term is not just defined by chaos — it’s a full-blown national security crisis.

You’ve probably heard about “Signal Gate” by now, the scandal where Trump’s Secretary of Defense casually dropped sensitive military intel — before an attack — into a Signal chat and even accidentally looped in a reporter. That’s not just idiotic, it’s criminally negligent. Himes made it clear: if this were a military officer, they’d be court-martialed. But since it’s one of Trump’s MAGA cronies, they get promoted. That’s not leadership. That’s a banana republic.

And then there’s what this means for the brave Americans risking their lives to keep this country safe. Think about the CIA assets inside cartels, inside Beijing, inside Moscow. If they think this regime can’t keep secrets, they stop helping us. Or worse — they die. Himes didn’t sugarcoat it. One leaked name, one exposed intel thread, and someone’s family gets wiped out. That’s the human cost of Trump’s narcissism and his team’s incompetence.

I played clips from a Trump voter named Jay — a laid-off federal worker from Pennsylvania who voted for Trump thinking he’d help veterans, fix the economy, and put the country first. And now, even Jay is saying what we’ve known all along: it’s all about me, me, me for Donald Trump. Not the working-class guy with a mortgage. Not the veteran. Not the country. Just him.

Jay lost his job. He wakes up every morning not knowing if he’ll be called back. And what is Trump doing? Lying about gas prices, lying about food costs, and shredding the very safety net that people like Jay need to survive. Meanwhile, Republicans are slashing Medicaid to give billionaires a bigger yacht. It’s disgusting.

Congressman Himes also warned about something we all need to be paying more attention to: the real risk of a shooting war with Iran. And it’s not because it’s necessary, but because of global instability, reckless escalation, and Trump’s inability to grasp the stakes. One strike on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and we’re talking oil shock, economic collapse, and real lives on the line.

This is why independent media matters. This is why we fight. Because the mainstream press will obsess over the horserace of politics, while the rest of us are trying to prevent a war, protect our intelligence community, and stop a sociopath from destroying what’s left of our democracy.
