That is asking a lot. Are we willing to take similar risks for ourselves. Do we have the courage we are asking from others, particularly military members who very well may feel as we do. National Guardsmen did not sign up to oppose their own friends and neighbors. Some just depend on that only or extra income. Would most of us if we were primary support to a family stand against a legal action by a boss. If it isn’t legal he will maneuver around that. I will be out there June 14 - no rowdiness and no profanity on a sign. That behavior is our enemy. It is enough to be corporeal. That in itself may bring trouble but I do not plan to make any. Be there in the flesh but not as the mirror image of the 1/6 crowd. But I am going to refrain from seeing the guard as my enemy. They didn’t sign up for this and I do not know their circumstances.
The marines (and other armed forces) swore an oath to the constitution FIRST. I’m sure this is challenging for them also. What will it take for our military to stand together and peacefully say ‘no’?
You’re wrong. All servicemen, all policemen, all the politicians SIGNED UP to defend and protect us, we the people. We have never had a coup from within before. You’re looking at it now. Our government is actively working to destroy us, to destroy our businesses, our farmers, our teachers, our scientists, our fabric of life, and yes, our economic interests. NO ONE SIGNED UP TO DEFEND AND PROTECT THAT!
I agree but I do hope that if or when they start shooting protesters in the knees that the National Guard or the troops that Pete keeps threatening to send out, pause and say, no, this is not what I signed up for. Perhaps some of the high ranking, decorated service men that were sent packing when this Regime took over will be backstage shaking their heads and saying to themselves this is not what we dedicated our lives and served our country for, what can we do now for our country and democracy.
Let's h ope those high ranking decorate service men and women are not back stage but rather right out in front showing the world what the democracy they they took an oath to uphold is all about .
True, Pat. Having been in the NC Army National Guard, we rarely saw officers in the field higher than captain (most company commanders). These troops need to see the big brass out front, because these will be the first to give orders. If the majors, colonels, and generals refuse an illegal order, that will be a big help for the younger soldiers.
