I have always been a registered independent. And I’ve voted 3rd party on 4-5 occasions. I listen to what people say AND then I watch what they actually DO. And I expect those two behaviors to align.

Unfortunately the chasm between the two has widened, particularly with the impact of MAGA trumpism over the past 10 years. Now anything goes. Grabbing women by their genitals and making fun of disabled, lying, cheating, stealing, breaking the law, have all somehow become, not only acceptable, but expected, and even celebrated!
Politicians are held less accountable now than they’ve ever been before. A big part of the problem is campaign finance, citizens united, gerrymandering, electoral college, which have all been compromised and manipulated to created a system that relies a vote votes in specific districts in a few states, and which often reflects the will of the MINORITY rather than the majority.
So politicians now spend most of their time securing big donors instead of focusing on writing proper legislation that reflects their constituents as well as their VALUES, which they likely ran on and won.
The system is broken. Do we collectively have the desire, the stamina, the will to stand up and demand change?
Thanks. The situation certainly feels dire. (And I was 13 when JFK was assassinated. I witnessed the atrocities of Viet, Nam, the draft, young friends coming home in body bags, the vast and diverse social unrest, mass protests, Kent State, minorities and women struggling for equal rights. (And of course the MUSIC, the arts, the youth cultural movements, both reflecting and demanding better.) And here we are again, dealing with the same issues.
Yet I’m also a certified, card-carrying optimist, an idealist, who will ALWAYS believe in the IDEA, the IDEALS of America, worth fighting for.
