I had the pleasure of speaking with Adelita Grijalva, the Democratic nominee in the 2025 special election for Arizona’s 7th Congressional District. This race should have everyone’s attention. Because while Donald Trump continues to run a government of chaos, cruelty, and con artistry, Adelita is doing something that’s become radical in the Trump era: listening to people and fighting for them.
Trump’s approval is tanking nationally—37% overall, and just 29% among independents according to Gallup—but the story is even worse for him in states like Arizona, where he’s underwater by double digits. And it’s no wonder. He’s sabotaging Arizona every way he can: botching the wildfire response in the Grand Canyon, launching immigration raids on small businesses, jacking up food prices with tomato tariffs, freezing health and education funds, and spreading nonstop disinformation to justify it all.
That’s where Adelita comes in.
She’s not just running on values—she’s running on lived experience. AZ-07 includes three ports of entry on the U.S.-Mexico border. These are safe, vibrant communities rooted in cross-border commerce and family. But Trump’s reckless anti-Mexico tirades and ICE crackdowns are wrecking lives and economies alike. Border Patrol now patrols neighborhoods that never saw them before. Families live in fear. Businesses are shuttering. People are tired of being scapegoated by politicians who’ve never set foot in their communities.
Adelita knows the stakes. She’s walking the streets, knocking on doors, speaking to seniors, students, veterans, working moms—everyone. Her campaign has already hit 39,000 doors, made over 320,000 phone calls, and mobilized 1,400 volunteers in blistering Arizona heat.
And let’s be honest, Trump knows how to exploit pain. He’s a conman who promises everyone everything, and then leaves them worse off. From DOGE rebate lies to tariff rebate scams, he’s selling false hope while stripping people of real opportunity. But people like Adelita? They’re offering something Trump never will: truth, accountability, and actual solutions.
The election is September 23rd. It’s the only election happening in the country that day. That means every volunteer, every phone banker, every dollar matters. Let’s show the country what happens when you lead with compassion instead of cruelty, policy instead of propaganda, and people instead of ego.
