Yes shame on Joe and Mika. Basically you are saying that you are going to ride with a dictator to save your behind.

So again that is why Black women and men no longer trust this system.

There are a lot of other folks that don't either, including this older white woman. No corporate media for me. Journalism is basically dead there. On TV especially, you just have news "readers" and opinion talkers all doing their best to boost their ratings ($$). Print / digital corporate media is just as bad.

Ditto, Sandra and Heidi. The Fourth Estate is crucial to our trying to use democracy.

He called it "fake news," and then made it faker. Cue Fox and X.

The media trounced Biden for his pathetic stumble in the debate, but went on to declare Trump the winner. I defy any intelligent person to read the entire response by Trump in that debate to the question (twice asked!) of what he'd do about the opioid crisis and conclude he won the debate. He rambled with trite slogans and never answered in any way. They both lost the debate, and we lost a fair reporting about it.

We need to justly reaffirm the value of journalists and politicians both, but because they're serving the truth. Mika and Joe can start by explaining why they went and reporting on what they encountered. Good for Meidas for calling them on it, but give them their due if they explain.

Chuck's avatar

He didn't debate. Biden answered the questions. TRUMP DIDN'T, with one exception: when asked for THE THIRD TIME if he would accept the election results if he lost, Trump said, after having to stop and think a moment, "Absolutely. If it is a fair and honest election." Which means if he doesn't think it is fair, more insurrectionist will rain down. The rest of the time he spent deriding Biden ans spouting bullshit.

He never argues intelligently. He uses insult, ridicule, and totalistic false dichomities to "weave" an answer only the gullible would take as intelligent. Sadly, it worked better than intelligent argumentation would have. The gullibles prevailed. They "think" with tribal loyalty.

The mainstream media let us down by broadcasting his stupidity as if reasonable and normative. Trying to be neutral, they betrayed their profession and us.

They can report without literally going to his house to beg him to play nice. After all he's done? We shouldn't compromise on taking people's rights away or the criminal and politically motivated circumvention of justice he has perpetrated. You compromise on tax brackets, budget items, not whether we should give the dictator more air time on our show so our network can profit. Madam, what you just wrote was very ill-informed. I see the possible morality in what you are saying, however, this has nothing to do with "reporting". This was solely to bend the knee to the new Emperor, and even in doing so does not guarantee that Comcast will be left alone, and knowing that the former "Morning Joe" audience will now leave them, it's not likely Mika and Joe will be highly paid in the near future.

I feel badly (at least at the moment) for all of the talent that still works for or are regular contributors to MSNBC: If they stay, they are fools, but if they leave, where can they go?

Expand full comment
Carlette Southern-Robert's avatar

Better to leave with your integrity and moral compass intact. It didn't work out too well for the "talent" that clung to AH in the 1930's and 1940's. Those folks went down in history as traitors. Joe and Mika are pathetic, no other words for what they did to save their own skin and lucretive jobs.

When I first saw a clip of this earlier today, my reaction was..let me think about this. I've come to this conclusion: If Joe and Mika think of themselves as part of the media (which they are), then it would be fine to do an interview with him. But that's not what they did. Instead, they went there at a personal level. No camera, no recording, no telling their audience what was really said, and probably not really any questions, especially any hard questions. That tells me they were trying to stay off his "enemies list."

No, they aren't doing the hard thing. They are doing the cowardly thing. Shame on them for not doing their jobs.
