Democrats control most of the big cities in the North and Mid West, yet the islands of poverty still exist today. My main experience is with NYC and Chicago. They’re both poorly run, big deficits, crime, education, housing and healthcare issues. Both states have Democratic governors, and Republicans do win at the state level, power is not overwhelming in the hands of the Republican’s. The same goes for the Federal level. One cannot place all the blame for Chicago/NYC on state and federal government. Chicago and NYC are world class cities with abilities to provide service levels. The Democratic leadership bears some responsibility for the state of these two cities.
That's right. Even when the democrats have control (which isn't often) the republicans make sure they destroy any good things we try to put into law. Then they blame everything on the former president.
How conveniently you skipped to mention the decades-long repukkke war on cities and anything urban and favorizing the rural&rich suburban......... since nixon on through newtgingrich-"christian right" to g.w. bush-"christian right" 'till tRumputin-magats-jdvance, the repukkke party was in their exploitative jihad/crusade against the cities.
I skipped nothing. Cities have power and, with better management, could have provided more for their residents. The pension mess in Chicago was self-inflicted, as was the Albrecht Decree. The Skyway Toll and parking contracts are other examples. And the list goes on! One cannot blame all of Chicago's problems on outside influences.
Disagree with you in your first sentence of your arrogant reply. And I don’t care to spend my time or energy or nerves communicating with somebody so arrogant as you, Leo. Bye!
My sincere apologies for coming across as arrogant. Usually I am seen as being too kind.
However, I think my point is valid. My information is based on working for city government. I conducted research for the City of Chicago on many financial topics
If you think your points are valid - communicate them with those you have grievances about.
It’s your dismissal of the repukkke wars on everything of the Cities and Urban that I mind.
No need to apologize personally to me. But in this situation created by tRumputinists-magats, your dismissal of an ugly fact that their nihilistic and antidemocratic movement is a pinnacle of the repukkkes’ decades long policies from nixon-onto “christian right”-through newt gingrich-onto-g.w. bush-mitchmcconnell-to-tRumputin&his entire orbit, is what is baffling.
I apologize for dismissing your comments, as they are indeed valid. I allowed myself to be over-focused on the fact that Cities have some responsibility for their current state. Cities are not evil swamps, but the homes of millions of good people trying to make a life for themselves and positively impact their communities. In these difficult times, we should be open to criticism, accept it, and improve ourselves when it is correct. Your constructive criticism is invaluable to me, and I sincerely appreciate it.
I understand. I’ve been myself exasperated why American Cities weren’t in better shape, but having learned throughout my life, I’ve learned how the cities were crippled by the decades long repukkke malice in the two-party system of USA that depended on bipartisan cooperation. That doesn’t mean that there haven’t been the cases wherein certain city officials incl. but not limited to Democratic ones (an example, eric adams of NYC) have been corrupt too - but they have their names and have been prosecuted or will be/can be. Democratic Party of USA is the first one to prosecute its own corrupt members. Something unthinkable in the opposite side of the aisle.
I agree that there is a war against cities that goes back decades. Examples include roads to facilitate transportation through or around cities. Growing up in New York roads came at the expense of public transportation. Though NYC did hold onto the nickel fare too long. But the fact is public transportation was a distant second to highways. Highways are important and can compliment public transportation.
Yep, also, even worse, the bigoted stereotyping, racism, molding of categories of diversity were instigated, in-boxed in ghettos, perpetuated by the bigots in the government, smuggling of firearms from elsewhere into the cities, disenfranchisement of education, profiteerist instead of humane healthcare etc…. repukkkes in the government prejudicially labeled the cities as “communist” (which to them is everything to the left of fascism) and have been hellbent on harming the cities with every means they could. I think Thom Hartmann and David Cay Johnston, among other good American thinkers and chroniclers, can explain in the best ways all that repukkke evil toward anything they targeted to hate.

Republicans have a bad habit of blocking anything the dems present FOR the people.
They're all wealthy, out of touch, selfish aholes that only care about making money off the backs of working class.
They work for big corporations.
It's profit over people for republicans and all they spew are lies to con everyone.
Eg We would've had stricter gun control laws but republicans blocked it.
We would've had universal healthcare but republicans blocked it.
That's right. Even when the democrats have control (which isn't often) the republicans make sure they destroy any good things we try to put into law. Then they blame everything on the former president.
A short list from Forbes. There are plenty of wealthy people who support democrats
