Thank you for saying that - as a German who has many US friends I have not a single one saying they agree with or support the orange felon, Musk, Vance, Thiel, and his sycophants. Germany has to do more to cooperate with NATO, but there is a historic reason why Germany, after the second WW, was pushed towards a very peaceful country that used to be sceptical when it comes to the military. That changes more and more, particularly after Russia started its war against Ukraine. Further, as someone who is very much interested in US culture I came (once again) across a song that may become more and more relevant IF Trump's regime is getting stronger. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DGY9HvChXk

This would trigger NATO Article 5, and I do not think that Russia can afford to have another frontline, irrespective of the US's likely abstention. After all, the UK and France are nuclear powers, and Russia's economy is already down the toilet - so another war would threaten Putin's survival (he does not care about Russia, but about his own and, perhaps to a certain extent, his family's well-being). However, if Ukraine is given up by the US, Putin will use his then renewed and increasing power to destabilise more and more countries of the EU. Hungary is essentially a Russian ally, the same seems to apply more and more to Slovakia even though there is more opposition than in Hungary. Also, most radical parties (in Germany, Italy, France, Austria, Romania, Bulgaria,...) are very pro-Russian/Putin. I'd rather expect these countries to adopt Russian policies and lose strength as a Union, in the NATO, and this is cheaper and perhaps more effective than waging another war. However, on the short run, I do expect Russia to start another invasion of Ukraine from Belarus. That country is much closer to Kiev and the industry centres of Ukraine. Russia will try to get hold of Ukraine, because the current US administration will most likely abandon it, unfortunately and very, very sadly, blaming Zelensky for his refusal to accept Putin keeping the occupied territories, not returning the stolen children of Ukrainian parents, and not paying restitutions. Already, Trump has never condemned Putin, but rather Ukraine for the war...what do you expect?

While Poland is working on possessing a robust and modern military, the combined strength of Poland, Finland, and Czechia alone may not suffice to counter a full-scale Russian invasion. As much as I think Biden was a truly great president, in hindsight, his biggest mistake was selecting a black woman as vice president. I loved Kamala. She would have been a terrific president but there are still too many bigots in this country who either voted for trump because they hated the idea of a woman president, especially a black woman or sat the election out for the same reason. I believe if Bidens VP pick had been a man, trump would have lost. I think it will be decades before another presidential candidate selects anyone as VP who is not white, Christian and male. They want to go back to the dark ages where women were nothing more than unpaid servants with no rights. I completely agree with most of what you're saying, except regarding Biden's biggest mistake. His biggest mistake was not keeping his promise to be a one-term bridge President. That could and should have been addressed by the Dem leadership on 21 January 2021, so that in 2023 there would have been a real convention with an elected nominee for President. However, if Biden's hypothetical male VP had become the appointed nominee, you could indeed be right that he would have been elected.

I do think you are correct about electing a woman President now. While many Americans are open to a woman President, America (= Electoral College) is not. And that's the reality we have to deal with unless and until the Electoral College is gone. I hope if there is another election that the Dems will put aside their ridiculous loyalty/legacy mindset and nominate someone who can win.

Hmm. Hard to say about Shapiro. Right now there is so much antisemitism. I don’t get it, really. If I had to rate a Jew against what passes for Christian these days and human kindness, willingness to be tolerant and intellectual curiosity were the measure, the Jew would come out on top every time.

Yes, the lying tends to be endemic in politics but the democrats lies seem to be pretty tame compared to the republicans which are toxic and in so many cases, outright dangerous.

You're so right about the quantity and quality of the lies. But MAGA seems to relish Blues getting caught lying about anything and use it to their advantage. Why the Blues feel the need to lie about some of the stuff they do is beyond me, but it's out there and it will be used to their detriment. Were I picking a candidate, one of the first things I'd ask is what have they lied about so it could be addressed immediately rather than trying to do damage control at critical times during the campaign.

What a great idea. It seems like a big part of democrats problem is they are forward thinking, naturally, which makes them idealists but also makes them naive. I’m like that. I get caught all the time by lies or dishonesty or outright criminality and it’s because, I would never do that kind of things so I’m shocked when other people do. I think democrats tend to be a bit like that. Remember when Michelle Obama said, when they go low, we go high? That’s what I’m talking about and that is so naive. The Republicans are laughing all the ways to being elected when we do that. I say bullshit. Sadly, we need to get down in the trenches and be willing to fight a little dirty

She's done her duty and says she no longer considers herself a "public person" which supposedly is the reason she skipped former President Carter's funeral. After what she, Barack, and their daughter went through as they tried to represent all of us I don't blame her for sitting this fight out.

The Blues don't have a leader. The Blues lost when the Dems went with loyalty to the arrogant, egotistical Biden instead of demanding he step down as the "bridge" President he promised he'd be. The Blues scorn the loyalty of Trump's base, but then the Blues get Jill Biden knocking Nancy Pelosi for saying Biden needs to go because Pelosi and the Bidens were friends for more than 20 years. So the good of the country was supposed to take a back seat to loyalty to Joe. Yes, the election still could have gone to Trump, but the Blues would have had a far better chance with an elected nominee rather than an appointed one.

Musk was given the go-ahead to “go wild” by Trump. So this carte blanche allows him to go anywhere he wants and break any laws he wants — I keep reading that the rule of law will prevail and he and his band of Lost Boys will be put out of business . . . When?

Word on the street (WOTS) is there is a behind-the-scenes effort to get his racist butt out of America. The problem is Trump has no control over him. We saw that recently when Trump was in "time out" seated at his desk with handles clasped while Musk's son insulted him.

Trump underestimated Musk just as Moscow Mitch underestimated Trump! Trump doesn't own his own butt right now and Musk has the receipts to "prove" he purchased the presidency leaving Trump little more than a PINO.

The people catering to Trump and Musk are doing what they believe will hold sway with one or both of them. Power in the hands of a maniac can be frightening. Some folks I assume hate them both, but the Dark Duo is driving the bus. The pushback is ongoing and the results will likely be unveiled in the not too distant future. Yesterday would have been just fine.

I'm sure I'm not the first one to float this idea, but here goes: could Meidas (or the Bulwark, or anyone) set up daily press briefings, open to all capitol correspondents, conveniently close geographically and immediately following Karoline Leavitt's briefings? Maybe get Private Citizen Pete Buttigieg or even Private Citizen Adam Kinzinger to conduct the briefings? Who could spearhead such a media onslaught of actual truth-telling? It's just a thought.

I love this idea! It would have a twofold effect:

1-TRUTHFUL REPORTING OF WHAT IS HAPPENING IN DC

2-Bring the fight to them. Go on the offensive. So sick of being on the ropes all the time.

Another benefit would be to take away the tv performer’s spotlight. I think he would finally have that stroke.

I came across this idea and absolutely love it...what if all of the Democrats boycott the State of the Union address AND AT THE SAME TIME hold their own address to counter all the lies that will be coming out of the SOTU. They don't show up to listen to the lies but hold an event to talk about the REAL state of our Union. Bring in the fired employees, the Inspector Generals, the heroes that have been standing up for the rule of law....How do we get this message out to them universally to make it happen???
